I wonder. Is this "BlogExplosion" a good thing? I like to think that I write, post links and exist in this space that is my own creative outlet. I have never been judged here. If you don't agree, don't click. Right? I have made many friends since I started danielphillip.com. In fact, it's nice to have found such diversity in "like minded" people. I have made friends with people in different countries, with different political beliefs, and different moral values. Yet I have never been judged. I guess that is because people came here of their own accord. "BlogExplosion" is more of a captive audience. You wait the thirty seconds, and get what it gives you. You can't even leave if offended, because you wait for that damn timer (sorry for the language, but I clearly have an "R" rating...). I would have thought people expected this and would, like me, refrain from commenting on sites whose "creative vision" differed from their own. As it turns out that is not so much the case. However, I refuse to discredit a whole service for one person. I have enjoyed "BlogExplosion" for the most part. It's just something to consider.I’m a firm believer in the “You can always leave” rule - if you don’t like what you see, leave! That’s what I do. Now, I don’t use BlogExplosion, so I probably shouldn’t comment on that thirty seconds rule - but it just seems like such a short time to me. I mean, short enough that you should be able to refrain from leaving offensive comments even if you strongly disagree with what you see.
But then again, I think there is no excuse whatsoever for leaving rude and offensive comments on someone’s blog. Polite disagreeing is one thing, hurtful comments a whole another. But that’s just my humble (and hopefully polite) opinion!

Posted by Kirsi on 10/28 at 06:10 AMYeah I have noticed the same thing about Blog Explosion. I’m not too sure that I want to continue my membership. I’m still thinking about that one.
Posted by Ash on 10/28 at 06:42 AMMy traffic from BlogExplosion has died off, simply because I don’t surf on it anymore— the ratio of businesses, web design companies and freaks like that Shannon girl is too high compared to the ratio of good blogs, so it holds no interest for me.
Some people think that it’s their right to insult you if they see something they disagree with based on their sense of morality, and will use the “well, don’t have comments” excuse when you tell them to get bent.
It’s like a stranger walking into your home for thirty seconds, insulting everything in his path and then saying “well it’s not my fault that you’d left your door unlocked and i just happened to try it.”
Screw ‘em. Most of them are Fred Phelps supporting Baptists anyway.
Posted by Marie on 10/28 at 08:33 AMI think that if someone has been affected enough ny whatever you write to actually post a comment, even if it’s a negative one, then you’ve achieved a tiny little success. I like the glory, but I’ll take the insults too. It’s best when they leave they’re URL so you can go and see what sort of an itsy-bitsy world they think live in. It’s usually pretty sad.
I read the blog by the rogue commenter you’re referring to. Since the theme of the day is “nice”, I will refrain from comment other than to state that since she’s a praying woman, her family had better start praying that everyone survives unscatherd when her inevitable breakdown occurs. You see? Nice. I care about her wellbeing and that of her family. I truly do.
I like your blog a lot, Dan. Don’t let the little people get you down.

“BlogExplosion”—- ? Ah, first time hearing about this.
See, I’m innocent.
Posted by Wayne on 10/28 at 10:09 AMOK Daniel, I’ve finished exploring your blog after having had my first not so good impression of you with that letter you wrote and published to the girl on the train.
You’ve created a pretty cool blog. I like the colors and the layout and the features. You are also a good writer. And you are a fellow Mac user. So, we even have something in common. You come up with very creative and sometimes even brilliant ideas. You explore and use different styles of writing and I like that. You are also not afraid of opposing views or you wouldn’t have a comments field, and you would have deleted negative comments.
You’ve even come up with a good premise, is BE really all that? I’ve wondered the same myself having landed on sites that totally offend me. I don’t even wait the 30 seconds at those sites. It’s not worth it. I do, however, like to read about and even engage in many of the debates I’ve found
I’ve learned that bloggers, on the whole, are comment junkies. So, when I leave a comment, which usually takes longer than 30 seconds to do, it is always a compliment regardless of what I say because I’ve given the blogger some of my time.
Daniel, I said that reading the letter you wrote made me think that the girl you encountered was nasty and that so were you for writing such a mean letter. I am sorry that I hurt you. I really am. I think she hurt your feelings too. So, now that I’ve had more than just a first impression of you, I can see that you have a soft heart and I really admire that in a man.
But, I’m sorry. I’m going to have to disagree with you and leave a negative comment again. Your title to this latest entry is “I Know I’m Nasty.” No. You are not. You just have a soft heart and get hurt easily. That doesn’t make you nasty. It is actually endearing. So the title should be “I’m not nasty, am I?”Posted by shannonblogs on 10/28 at 12:17 PMCan you imagine what she’d say if she every landed on my site, even though I have no idea what BlogExplosion is.!!
Would be interesting to see how she comments on my view of the numbnuts I work with and my Uncle C**trag - as you are R rated!
Posted by Helen on 10/28 at 12:46 PMHello, popping in from Blogexplosion and promise to behave with the utmost good will and graciousness.
I have had nothing but pleasant experiences on BE. There are many blogs not to my taste in subject matter or language. But no harm is done by staying for 30 seconds in seedy Internet precincts, as long one maintains a purity of heart and is listening to the BBC and learning something until a better blog comes around.
