I am looking at a 5 day weekend after today. Do you know how badly I want to just call in sick? I mean… I was really tempted. But I have never actually called in. Even when I was sick. I have gone home sick before tho… What about you?
wow…you’ve got some goody goodies here, don’t ya?
Posted by laura on 02/08 at 03:44 PMTo me they’re ‘Mental Health’ days, and I think they’re very important for anyone that works in a ‘Customer Service’ environment. I do IT support all day long, and trust me, there are times when the ‘End (L)users’ really make me want to take a day off.
Posted by jefFred on 02/08 at 04:52 PMi voted “other” because i don’t usually call in sick. recent sick day not included. i usually plan my random days off but sometimes i just need a break. funny though, i don’t usually call in sick when i really am. i figure if i am going to be miserable, i might as well go to work and be twice as miserable. why waste a good day off on not feeling well. when i stay home, i want to enjoy the day!
Posted by antisocialite on 02/08 at 07:50 PMi work a stressful involved job. i take mental health days when im not feeling up to par mentally. my schedule allows for it. I am lucky. I try to not to beg off really important things cause there’s not really anyone to b ck me up like that.
Sometimes I just don’t go to work. I can sort of make my own schedule so there’s nothing stopping me.
Posted by Ruthie on 02/09 at 12:39 AMi only call in sick when i have other plans that i can’t take the day for. almost never when i am actually sick.
Posted by julie on 02/09 at 07:00 AMi chose other because there are various reasons for me to have a sick day. I don’t get sick days in my job. so if i take a sick day, it’s because i have another project that needs to get done “right now” or I just don’t feel like it. Because I don’t get paid if i “call in sick”, then i usually have a good reason.
“because i don’t feel like working” is good enough for me.
Posted by Yoshi on 02/09 at 10:09 AMThe BF trys to get me to call in sick when he has the day off and I don’t. But he never will do the same for me. Now all of our days off are the same so we can be sick together.
Posted by richard on 02/09 at 12:51 PMI worked 26.5 years at the same job and a lot of years I didn’t even take a single sick day off, yet some of my co-workers made sure that they got every single day available and then some. However, since for us pay raises were based on performance, their abuse of the sick time policy - and other factors - was often reflected in the size of their pay raise.
