About two weeks ago Richard and I went to a dinner thing at a good friends house. As a hostess gift we decided to bring fresh cut flowers. It was a beautiful seasonal selection. When we got to her house there was a bit of an ordeal, as she did not have a vase to put them in. Richard explained that we chose the fresh flowers versus something in a pot because "potted plants are such a commitment". This past weekend Our friend and her husband were here for a barbecue. As a gift she brought a potted plant. An orchid. Now it's beautiful, and I have wanted one, but talk about a commitment! Time to give the orchid it's daily "misting"...

  1. She must hate you. That could be the only explanation—only a bonsai would be worse. Think of the guilt after it finally dies (I’m realisitic, not negative…)

  3. I’d have gone with fresh cut flowers, too.  Orchids can be quite expensive and while they do last for a bit, they’ll eventually die and won’t produce anymore flowers.  You’re just left with a sad looking twig.  But a very nice gift!
