So I had to work during SF Gay Pride this year. I was not overly disappointed, as I stopped attending years ago. It's not that I don't have "pride" or whatever. I just don't understand what all the chaos is about. I always found it to be an excuse for a cruise-y party and nudity. (Why are the wrong people always the ones that get naked?) It got boring. (plus I never actually watched the actual parade, so I may have missed something in the message...)
Anyway, now that I work in the city, I didn't miss much at all. Most of the downtown area was inaccessible due to not only the parade, but the crowds. The whole thing actually went right on by. I could see it! The only folks entering the store were looking for a bathroom... This was a loud parade. What stands out in my mind was the the ho-down of men in red & white plaid sleeveless shirts with tight jeans doing some country western dance on the back of a truck or something, and Mayor Gavin (who is so beautiful, he doesn't look like a mayor...), and of course all the nudity in plain view of my young impressionable associates. The parade is not "work-appropriate".
The mess after all the people cleared was incredible. There was trash everywhere. Liquor bottles balanced in phone booths, papers/leaflets blowing around in the breeze, and the sidewalks were trashed with peoples' mess. I'm all for pride and all, but yuck! To think that maintenance spent an hour washing sidewalk in front of our store today...

You know what is funny? On the news last night, she was talking about the parade. When they showed the mayor, I thought the same thing. I was thinking, “That is the mayor? He is HOT! He can’t be the mayor.”
