I have a question. It is of a rather delicate nature, and as such it is not a ‘click here’ response. I want to know, in your own words (as in comments)...

What is your idea of romance? What do you consider romantic? Is it an action? Words? Ambiance? Lay it on me kids… It’s a lunchtime poll!

  1. Romance is a state of being.  Its not just an action or an idea.  While it can be found in Grand Gestures, it should fully be appreciated in smaller details.  I personally can be swept away by just having my hand held, especially in public, by someone that means the world to me.

  2. Romance is something that comes in tiny moments, it’s not a sustained state of being. A gesture is romantic, a moment that sweeps you both up with it, a simple smile without words.

I think we can get too caught up trying to find romance, force something to be romantic or make something artificially romantic and we miss out on the true special moments in our lives sometimes.

All that being said, “Baby, I think you’re so hot” is NOT romantic.

  3. I think that it can be simple actions or words that can set a mood.  Especially if they are not actions or words you say or do often and when you do they capture a certain attention.

  4. All of those are great answers, well, except for the first one! hehe!

I’m not quite sure know what it is since I’m by far the least romantic person on earth, just ask my bf.  Something simple that makes the heart go warm and fuzzy?!?

  5. I think it’s an atmosphere.  Words and gestures both have alot to do with it, but they have to be appropriate to the situation. It wouldn’t have have been nearly as romantic if Edward VII was giving up his job as fry cook instead of a crown for Wallis, nor do I think it romantic for someone to propose on the jumbo-tron at the local major league sports event.  All too often, people err on the side of the Grand Gesture and waste a perfectly good, but small, opportunity for genuine romance.

  6. I too think romance isn’t something huge. It’s just small, unexpected actions or words that can be romantic even though that might not have been their original intent. That’s when it’s most special.

  7. gulp  Romance? Maybe the moment that a piece of music is playing around me and I can’t help missing someone strongly or just lightly…  I can’t express it very clearly for my English is not that good, or romance is one thing that we could hardly define at all.
